2 Day Sacred Valley Tour

2 Day Sacred Valley Tour

The Sacred Valley has become in recent years, one of the most important destinations in South America, is the valley of the Urubamba River and is known worldwide as the Sacred Valley of the Incas. The valley lodges beautiful traditional Andean towns of the time of the colony; In them you can find ancient Inca settlements scattered along the valley, in the middle of mountains belonging to the chains of the Andes mountain range. Structures such as those you can see in the towns of Pisac or Ollantaytambo, have made it one of the favorite places for travelers from all over the world, especially since it is the place where you will have to enter the Inca city of Machu Picchu. This Valley was the center of Tahuantinsuyo, the largest known empire of the Western Hemisphere, it ran from Colombia and Ecuador, through Peru and Bolivia, to the northern part of the nations of Argentina and Chile; and its capital is the city of Cusco, known as the "navel of the world". 2 Day Sacred Valley Tour give us the opportunity to appreciate and enjoy the natural beuty of the Sacred Valley. With the river feeding the valley, its fertile lands were one of the main centers of food production during the time of the Incas; Some places, such as Moray, were used as agricultural laboratories to experiment with plant species brought from all over the empire. The Incas cultivated, potatoes, white corn, coca, fruits and vegetables, in terraces like those that can be seen in many valley towns designed especially for this purpose. Currently the valley produces lucuma, peach, avocado, and one of the best grains of corn in the world. But it was more than just an important agricultural center; The Sacred Valley of the Urubamba River, "Willcamayu" for the Incas, was one of the most important elements in the religious cosmology of the Incas. They believed that the flow of the Urubamba was closely linked to the constellations and mountains, they also believed that it was the counterpart of the Milky Way on Earth.

Highlights of the 2 day tour Machu Picchu Sacred Valley:

  • The Incas gave great importance to the Sacred Valley due to the geographical richness of the area. So much was the veneration that they had for this region that according to his worldview they believed that the Milky Way was reflected in the Urubamba River, the main torrent. This important river rises in the Vilcanota mountain range and descends in the east, in the jungle.
  • According to the Incas, the Urubamba River was the Earth's reflection of the Milky Way and its constellations: llama, condor, trees, etc.
  • Currently, the Sacred Valley of the Incas is composed mainly of 6 villages: Pisac, Chinchero, Urubamba, Ollantaytambo, Calca and Yucay. Most of these villages are not at high altitude. The summits that guard these places protect them from the icy winds of the puna.
  • The Urubamba River covers a large part of the land making fertility of the farmland possible.
  • Sacred Valley of the incas has a unique climate, the temperature can reach 23 ° C. At night, at 4 ° C. For the Incas, this type of climate made possible the cultivation of a variety of agricultural products. Today, the inhabitants of diverse localities consider that the Valley contains a perfect climate.
  • Currently, there are only 3 ways to reach the Inca Citadel of Machu Picchu. The first is through the Inca Trail, a 4-day trekking route, which is the way the Incas came to the Inca City in the past. The second is with a 2-hour train ride to the town of Aguas Calientes, a village located on the outskirts of the Wonder of the World. The third is with the alternative route by Hidroeléctrica. All these mentioned routes cross the Sacred Valley of the Incas. That is why it is recommended to visit the main towns of that fertile territory before knowing the Inca llaqta.
  • Machu Picchu is also called as the "lost city" because the jungle had literally covered it when Hiram Bingham III "discovered this wonder"  in 1911. When the vegetation was removed and the great complex of ruins was revealed.
  • Declared a Cultural and Natural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, being considered as an important religious, political and administrative center of the Inca period.
  • Machu Picchu was interconnected with the entire Inca Empire through the Qhapac Ñan, known route of the Inca roads.
  • Machu Picchu temperature ranges between 6.2 ° and 29.5 °, since it is located in a subtropical zone. Its rainiest months are from November to March.
  • Its majestic architecture comprises some 140 structures throughout the citadel of Machu Picchu
  • The average altitude of the citadel of Machu Picchu is 2 450 m a.s.l.

Poncho for the rain on the train tour to Machu Picchu.

Protect yourself from the rain with a poncho.

Clothes for the rain.

Machu Picchu is located in a valley in the middle of the Peruvian jungle, so it is common to have rain days of light to moderate intensity. We recommends you take a plastic poncho to avoid getting wet. You can buy inexpensive disposable ponchos at the Ollantaytambo or Aguas Calientes station.

Hat and sunglasses.

If you go to Machu Picchu in the dry season (April to November) you will have a great sun as a companion in your visit to the wonder. To protect your health, we recommend wearing a hat to avoid solar radiation. Dark glasses to protect the eyes from radiation would not hurt either. Another measure to take is to take sunscreen and apply it several times a day.

Hand gel and medication.

A visit to the Inca wonder is not an excuse to interrupt a treatment. Take your personal medication with you. Use gel to disinfect your hands and keep them clean.

Bottled mineral water.

It is important to stay hydrated during the visit to Machu Picchu so do not forget to bring a bottle of water or your favorite drink and enjoy it on the train or in the citadel.

You will not want to miss the impressive shots of the Sacred Valley from the Vistadome train or the imposing silhouette of the Huayna Picchu. Take your camera with you, as well as extra batteries, a case to protect it from sun, dust and rain. Remember that it is not allowed to take tripods and selfie sticks to Machu Picchu. Take many pictures on the Vistadome train to Machu Picchu Do not forget the camera!
