ALTIPLANO CROSSING
While it is our intention to adhere to the route described below, there is a certain amount of flexibility built into the itinerary and on occasion it may be necessary, or desirable to make alterations. The itinerary is brief, as we never know exactly where our journey will take us, (remember we are in South America). Due to our style of travel and the regions we visit traveling, with All Territories can be unpredictable. The dossier is a general guide to the tour and region and any mention of specific destinations or wildlife is by no means a guarantee that they will be visited or encountered.
Please contact us for more information if needed.

DETAILED ITINERARY:
Day 1 Arrive to La Paz
Arrival day, no planned activities, check in at your hotel and explore the many fine museums or wander the streets, filled with colorful markets and indigenous costumes.
La Paz, the highest de facto capital in the world, is a city that amazes visitors. Houses cling to the hills, defying gravity and the cholitas (native women) with their colorful, typical clothing enliven the city. La Paz is surrounded by forested hills and crowned by the majestic Mount Illimani (6,400 m) A diversity of trails and attractions awaits you.
Day 2 La Paz
Today we take a tour to Tiwanaku located at an altitude of 3.845 meters above sea level and 71 kilometers away from La Paz city.
The Tiwanaku culture as to chronology refers, would be placed between 1.500 B.C in its beginnings and 1.200 A.C its extinction. The Tiwanakota culture shows three periods in the evolution of the culture, which are: Village, Urban and Imperial or Expansive.
According the air photographs available, it is determined that Tiwanaku city reached a length of 2,8 kilometers and a maximum width of 1,6 kilometers. This planimetry determined an area of 420 hectares.
In the evening after the tour will take an overnight bus to Uyuni.
Day 3 Uyuni
In the morning we arrive at the litte town of Uyuni, from where we embark on a 3 day desert crossing into this awesome scenery. A surreal landscape waits between the Salar de Uyuni and the Bolivian Desert. Travel by 4WD through piercing blue skies and blinding white salt flats. Here we will have time to buy some stuff for our expedition.
Day 4 Uyuni/San Juan
Embark on a journey through one of the most isolated and dramatic geographical regions in South America through the impressive Salar de Uyuni, the world’s largest salt flats.
Day 5 San Juan/Laguna Colorada
Oddly shaped cacti grow along the Colorada Lagoon attracting brilliant pink flamingoes at this bird refuge around Bolivia’s salt flats. The splendid panoramic desert vistas are accented by distant volcanoes.
Day 6 Laguna Colorada /San Pedro de Atacama
Take an early morning transfer to Sol de la Mañana where the dramatic geology of spewing geysers, smoky fumaroles and ponds of boiling mud are on display. Visit the emerald green Laguna Verde and observe rare wildlife. From there to Hito Cajones, the Bolivian border and then start going down almost 3000 metres from the high Bolivian altiplano, we arrive at the edge of the Atacama Desert, and to the small desert oasis of San Pedro de Atacama.
Day 7-8 San Pedro de Atacama
There are plenty of optional excursions here, like biking, exploring nearby ruins, horseback riding, and a tour of the Valley of the Moon.
Day 9 Salta
In the morning at 10 AM we take a local bus to picturesque Salta, in the North of Argentina home to delicious Empanadas Salteñas.
Day 10 Salta
Early in the morning take in the incredible scenery and many coloured mountains on your trip to the famous bridge of La Polvorilla, visiting the pre-incas ruins of Tastil, getting the highest path called Abra Blanca and visiting the little town of San Antonio de los Cobres.
Day 11 Salta
Today after breakfast, as an optiona, take part in this rafting along the impressive Juramento River. Uncontrollable emotions, an excellent barbecue and a personal attention will make this trip something to remember, or a hosrseback riding in San Lorenzo.
Day 12 Night bus
Free morning for explore the city and visit its museums or take optional activities such as a biking tour or visit the famous San Bernardo´s Hill, at noon will take a bus to Buenos Aires.
Day 13 Buenos Aires
Will arrive in BA during the morning, so today will be a relaxing day to walk around this fascinating city, the “Paris of South America”, wander the pedestrian walkways and see some local dancing in the streets.
Day 14 Buenos Aires
After breakfast you will take a city tour around this most European of Latin American cities. The grandiose architecture, wide boulevards and numerous restaurants and cafes of its busy centre give it a cosmopolitan air. As the principal port of a nation whose wealth was based on agricultural exports, the city experienced massive immigration and consistent growth. The huge metropolitan area is now home to over 13 million people (40% of the country´s entire population!) and a disproportionate amount of wealth and power. You’ll visit the districts of San Telmo, La Boca, Recoleta and of course the Plaza Mayo in central Buenos Aires. And for the last finale, as an optional, it is well worth taking in a Tango Lesson and a Tango show; the sheer machismo and passion of this dance cannot be beaten, especially not in its home city.

Our philosophy of travel is one of respect towards everyone we encounter, and in particular the local people who make the world the special place it is. The exploitation of prostitutes is completely contrary to this philosophy. Travel insurance is compulsory in order to participate on any of our trips. When traveling on a trip with us, you will not be permitted to join the tour until evidence of travel insurance has been sighted by your leader or local operator, who will take note of your insurance details. We strongly recommend that the policy also covers personal liability, cancellation, curtailment and loss of luggage and personal effects. If you have credit card insurance we require proof of purchase of the trip (a receipt of credit card statement) with a credit card in your name.
