El Chalten is a very small mountain village inside Los Glaciares National Park, located at the shores of “Rio de las Vueltas” river, and almost at the base of Fitz Roy Mount and Cerro Torre.
This place is very famous for Patagonia trekking tours, its hiking trails, and climbing routes at Cerro Torre and Fitz Roy Mount, where people from all over the world arrive there to challenge those pics.
One of the most famous Patagonia hiking tours is Laguna de los Tres viewpoint for an absolutely stunning picture of the complete Fitzroy Massif. Mt. Guillaumet, St. Exupery, Mermoz, Juarez and other mountains that form the jagged group, if weather allow it.
Directly across a small glacial lake rises Mt. FitzRoy, almost two miles of vertical wall in a single bound.
If you have enough energy, can visit a glacier called Piedras Blancas. The majority of the hike is of moderate difficulty, however the last 45 minutes to the viewing point is difficult but the view is worth it and is one of the highlights of El Chalten.
Another hike you can do is to Cerro Torre viewpoint and Torre Glacier, and if you want to get both massif in one picture, you have to hike to Loma del Piegue Tumbado, from there you have the best picture of the valley including Cerro Torre, Fitz Roy Mount and all the mountain change that surround the place, simply spectacular!
If you want a relaxing day, take a van to visit Laguna del Desierto, a stunning and peaceful place surrounded by a deep vegetation and pristine water.
Enjoy your Patagonia holidays in this remote place of the southern cone.
